SAVE OUR CITY VOTE "NO" TO THE DOWNTOWN PRISON BOND REFERENDUM ON NOVEMBER 6TH FIRST OF ALL, LETS GET A FEW THINGS STRAIGHT: s to be congratulated for bringing the present Sheriff Ken Pingrey i inadequacies and obsolescence of our present jail to the attention of the public. CARROLL COUNTY NEEDS A NEW LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER -JUST NOT DOWNTOWN . A jail to be constructed on the west side of the Courthouse which is as big as the Courthouse and is built to hold up to 52 inmates with room to expand is not a jail. It's a "PRISON The Board of Supervisors claims to have been working on the project for more than 2½ years. They sure did not let the Carroll Citizens and elected officials know untl recently The Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 to construct the new prison right in the middle of downtown Carrol HERE ARE SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE LOCATION: . We have spent millions of Dollars and countless hours on improving and beautifying our downtown starting with the Urban Renewal project 50 years ago. We are creating a beautiful downtown corridor extending from the Depot Center, past the renovated Depot, past thebeautifulnew Commercial Savings Bank, and extending to the East through our modern downtown, past what will be our new Library and extending east to the beautiful Biokinemetrics Building and the renovated Carroll Brewery and remodeled Kerps Bar and Grill. We have spent milions of Dollars on our new street lights and landscaping projects all to achieve what has become the most beautiful city in Western lowa. . We have preserved the beauty and utility of our Main Street corridor by having the right proportion of parking and open space between Highway 30 and the Union Pacific Tracks. We have been able to keep businesses downtown and keep our Library in a central Location THIS IS WHAT WE KNOW: . The Supervisors plan will destroy the downtown. The Supervisors plan will convert the new Library to a hangout area for the visitors to the downtown prison The Supervisors plan will force businesses out of the downtown area. ·The Supervisors plan will create traffic and parking congestion in an area that cannot handle any more density WE NEED A NEW LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER OUTSIDE OF THE DOWNTOWN LIKE OTHER PROGRESSIVE COUNTIES A CONCERNED CITIZE
