For starters, while in most cases. patients with TS also have other mental disorders like OCD or anxiety, it is not itself a mental illness, but rather a "movement disorder." Less than 15 percent of potients feel the compulsion to blurt out obscenities, though some form of vocal tics such as throat clearing or grunting is part of the syndrome.
